All patients have a fundamental right to determine what happens to both their own bodies, and to the information that is held about them.
When undertaking assessment and treatment with you we will seek to gain your consent to examination, treatment and sharing of information.
Our staff will give you as much information as possible about what to expect from assessment and treatment or the need to share information, so that you can make an informed decision as to whether you wish to give your consent.
You can withdraw consent at any point.
If you are looking to support a friend or family member to attend physiotherapy who does not have capacity to consent. The decision will be made in agreement with other healthcare professionals, and the individuals friends and family, reflecting the best interest of the individual.
For children & young people under the age of 16, the consent process can vary. Parental/caregiver consent will be sought for children under 12, and for young people aged between 12-16, an approach of joint consent between the parent/caregiver and young person will be sought.
