Guernsey Therapy Group Ltd is looking for an enthusiastic physiotherapist to come and join our experienced and dynamic team. We offer clinical supervision, peer support and commitment to CPD.
Guernsey Therapy Group Ltd (GTG) is a private physiotherapy practice and is contracted by the Health and Social Care services of the States of Guernsey to provide all secondary physiotherapy services within the health system in Guernsey. GTG work on various sites and this position is primarily based at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.
The post holder will provide specialised physiotherapy management for slow stream rehabilitation in-patients and community out-patients/falls pathway, balance class and amputees. There may be an opportunity to provide occasional cover for ICU, medical and surgical in-patients.
The post holder will be involved in conducting physiotherapy assessments, treatment and physiotherapy diagnosis including identifying and discussing appropriate rehab interventions.
Band 6 Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake the management of patients with medical and surgical, and orthopaedic conditions using developed specialist knowledge. This includes assessment and analysis; goal planning; prioritisation; treatment; objective measurement of progress and post discharge advice and education.
- Manage own caseload; being able to respond to change in caseload and patient needs. Demonstrate the ability to prioritise as necessary, liaising with the Team Lead and multi-disciplinary team.
- Formulate and deliver an individual physiotherapy treatment programme based on specialised knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment, outcome measures, excellent reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment skills e.g. therapeutic exercise, manual physiotherapy techniques, patient education.
- Promote high standards of clinical care, working as an autonomous specialised physiotherapy practitioner.
- Supervise and delegate treatment programmes to physiotherapy assistants.
- Provide specialised clinical skills in medical, surgical and generic rehabilitation physiotherapy including relevant equipment, falls rehabilitation and prevention.
- Provide, as an integral member of the inter-disciplinary team, ongoing support for the patient and their family / carers during the process of rehabilitation.
- Participate in education and training of student physiotherapists.
- Perform assessments of home and discharge environments to establish their suitability and requirements for ongoing needs. To contribute to the discharge planning process liaising with the relevant members of MDT and external services.
- Make referrals to other support/services as appropriate.
- Report on stock levels and equipment needs as required.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of working environment.
- Create, maintain and update patient records and reports according to professional standards and GTG policy.
- Update and maintain GTG PPS system.
- Participate in the emergency respiratory on-call rota and assist band 7 physiotherapists in the training of GTG staff in on-call competency when required.
- Participate in the implementation of policy and service development changes to GTG’s and team’s working practices and initiate and implement changes to working practices where this will result in improved performance.
- Cross-cover other clinical areas when service needs demand.
- Participate in supervision, training and education of junior staff.
- Participate in induction (including buddy system) and training of new staff when required.
- Manage physiotherapy assistants on a day-to-day basis.
- Participate in planning and delivering training for physiotherapy staff as part of the in-service training programme.
Qualifications:
- Appropriate Physiotherapy professional Qualification e.g. MCSP / BSc or MSc
- State Registered with Health Professional Council
- CSP or equivalent professional registration
- Evidence of CPD in generic rehab and frailty, in the form of a detailed professional portfolio
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years post-graduation (essential).
- Post-graduate experience within specialised service area (essential).
- Specialised knowledge and experience of a range of approaches to the management of medical, surgical and generic rehabilitation patients (essential).
- Previous experience of work in inter- and multidisciplinary teams (essential).
- Knowledge or practical use of audit (desirable).
- Knowledge of amputee rehabilitation (desirable).
- Experience of project work and identifying and implementing evidence-based practice (desirable).
- Experience supervising other staff or students (desirable).
