Pelvic health physiotherapy seeks to give compassionate care for men and women with pelvic floor weakness.
Having a bladder or bowel condition can cause you to have a lot of difficulties in your day to day life. Always looking for the toilet and constant worrying about leaking when you are out and about or even when you are in an exercises class. It can even interfere with your relationship as you have difficulty having sex. It may even give you pain in your tail bone, pelvis or bladder.
We also provide a service to help women get fit during their lifetime particularly during menopause, post hysterectomy or after childbirth. Menopause, post hysterectomy and having a baby is also a time that you can get bladder weakness and prolapse, all of which are looked at when designing a programme to suit you.
A pelvic floor physiotherapist offers a complete service from assessment through to treatment. Initially a confidential detailed history will be taken in a private treatment room. Your reasons for seeking treatment, your concerns and your health goals will then be discussed. It may be necessary to do an internal examination to assess your pelvic floor. Then treatment may include manual therapy, soft tissue release, retraining posture, exercises and biofeedback. Usually this appointment last an hour.
Guernsey Therapy Group provides physiotherapy on behalf of HSC. If referred by your midwife, GP or health visitor you can access pelvic health physiotherapy at no cost to yourself. Our physios are first contact practitioners, so if you are a private patient you can access our services without a referral.
We specialise with pelvic pain and lower back pain. After carrying out a detailed physical assessment and determining a diagnosis we’ll design a programme that suits you. We consider that mothers lead a hectic lifestyle so we design individual or class sessions. We have run our after-baby class for the last 3 years. The class is to help ease you back into exercise and target the key muscles that weaken during your pregnancy.
